Here's a bit of knowledge about Texas in 1870 and the years previous. It had become a official state in January, 1861. The civil war ended in April 1865, and Texas was one of the leading confederate states. After the war ended Texas was still considered to be in revolt. Andrew Johnson (president at the time) administered a treaty of peace between the U.S. and Texas in 1866.
Reconstruction continued for Texas after being admitted in the union until 1870. Any who, Texas in the 1800's claimed it to be a prime time of "medicine". Doctors were coming out with all sorts of antibiotics as well as treatments. Morphine and laudanum were prescribed for pain relief. Chloroform became popular for pain relief as well. There was a rise of addictions to opium as well around these times. There had actually been two opium wars in China previous and during this time...but that's another story.
texas industry & economy
Ranching was a large industry for Texas throughout the 1800's. There had been even a spark in the oil industry near Spindletop, Texas. There had been a wide industry for cotton as well. Farming was prominent as well.
apache
The most common Apache's native to Texas were the Lipan Apache. There name meaning is "People of the Mountains". Lipans' were said to have fought many Texans fiercely. There was a few other Apache tribes that traveled, lived, and fought in Texas soil as well. Such as the Jicarilla, Chiricahua, Membrenos, and Mescarlero tribes. It was claimed the Navajo was closely related. Apache's were considered the fiercest warriors out of all the Native Americans. They made hogans out of sticks and logs as well as mud. Most Apache tribes believed in one god; Naiyenesgani or Yusan.
